Ringtone and Mobile Music File Size
I doesn´t really say you anything when a mobile manufacturer says their phone can store 100 or 1 000 songs. You have to know what format they are talking about before you can judge if 1 000
songs is
much or little.
Below you see a table with some of the most common audio formats used on cell phones and how much the average file size is.
1 min. of MP3 (128 kbit/s) is usually 1 MB.

Optimizing Music Files For Cell Phones
You can optimize the audio files for a cell phone by using lower kbit/s. Remember that on many phones you won't be able to hear any different between 96kbit/s and 192kbit/s because the headsets aren´t that good. You can maybe hear the difference on your home stereo or on a portable MP3 player with a quality headset.
If one MP3 song is 4 - 5 MB then a music mobile with a 1 GB (1 000 MB) hard disk can store 200 to 250 songs.
The Nokia N91 has a 2 GB hard disk and can store some 400 - 600 songs which should be enough. The Sony Ericsson W900 has a 470 MB of free memory and that provides space for 100 MP3 songs or some 200 AAC songs. You can however
increase the storage capacity with a memory stick (available up to 2GB).
